Rail-Trails event – Hike to Panther’s Bluff

June 23, 2018 @ 9:00 am

Hike to Panther’s Bluff
June 23rd @ 9 am

Join us on June 23rd @ 9am on a hike to Panther’s Bluff with naturalist Jane Frye.

Parking will be available at the Simpson Trailhead, just off Route 171. Our hike will begin along the O&W Trail, offering views of the scenic Lackawanna River.

Just north of mile post 1, Panther’s Creek crosses under the trail. The mountain to the east is part of the Wildlands Conservancy’s 1500 acre property and the state’s first Native Plant Sanctuary. This is where we leave the trail and start our hike to Panther’s Bluff. Along the way we will see remnants of the D&H Gravity Railroad and Shepard’s Crook, a late 19th century open air rail car tourist attraction. The path is lined with native rhododendron and many varieties of wildflowers.

It will be a moderate climb, on a rocky path. Tell your friends and family. We hope to see you there.

Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and snacks, bug spray and sun protection. This hike is rated medium to difficult and is approximately 3 hours long.
